Hal J. Pos passed away peacefully on December 3, 2022, after fighting appendix cancer with fierce bravery, courage, perseverance, and strength. He was 63.
“Hal served on the Board for many years, guided our Governance committee and provided legal advice on numerous occasions,” said David Dowsett, Board President. Hal also served in many leadership positions professionally and in the community, including the Utah State Bar Association, TerraLex, Mountain States Legal Foundation, The McGillis School, and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to his passing, Hal sent JFS a beautiful letter to Ellen Silver, Executive Director, explaining why he felt this, his final donation, was so important.
“It has been my honor to serve on the Board of Directors of JFS and its various committees for the past several years. I have been proud to be associated with JFS and the critical mission it serves by providing important and vital support and services to individuals and families of all backgrounds in our community. I am particularly proud of the way JFS has stepped up to serve the needs of our community during the difficult pandemic years.
It has been a great pleasure to work with Ellen, the incredible professional staff, and the members of the Board of Directors over the many years. I have been inspired by the dedication, support and care of the many programs offered by JFS, many of which provide a lifeline to those in need.”
“Hal embodied the spirit of philanthropy,” said Ellen Silver, Executive Director. “His commitment to the welfare of others was outstanding. JFS, as with so many other mission-driven organizations, have benefited greatly by his leadership and the generosity of Hal and his wife, Ann Hashimoto.”
The 2023 Board of Directors have chosen to name a food pantry shelf in his memory.
