"It has been a year marked by significant change and progress for Jewish Family Service, and I am enthusiastic about the future for our dedicated staff and board," expressed Board President David Dowsett. Over the past year, we said goodbye to our beloved long-time Executive Director, Ellen Silver, welcomed Interim Executive Director, LeAnn Saldivar, and completed a new Strategic Plan. Dowsett remarked “The collaboration between staff and board was amazing as we navigated these new initiatives, setting forth the goals and plans for the next three years.”
During the November 2023 meeting, the Board of JFS elected three new members: Patrice Arent, Andrea Silver, and Doug Goldsmith, who began their three-year terms on January 1, 2024. The Board works together with staff to support JFS’ mission of strengthening individuals and families of all backgrounds through counseling, advocacy, care management, and community education.
“We are thrilled to welcome these three new board members,” said Lisa Treiman, Board Vice-President and Chair of the Nominating Committee. “We are extremely grateful they’ve committed to sharing their expertise and experiences in support of JFS’ mission and work. Each of these new members has a long and effective backgrounds in human service and public affairs.”
Patrice Arent is a former long-time member of the Utah House and Senate, whose work over the years focusing on caring for the human condition for all Utahns has been exemplary. Patrice has been a supporter of JFS for decades and most recently served on the Marketing and Messaging committee. We are pleased Patrice is now able to join the Board.
Andrea Silver brings a unique set of experiences and skills to the JFS Board. Over the past six years, she has played a crucial role in the JFS Development committee, contributing ideas and suggestions that have significantly impacted our fundraising efforts. Andrea also served as the former Capital Campaign Chair for the Children’s Justice Center.
Doug Goldsmith, whose family are long time members of the Utah Jewish community, brings a wealth of experience in the human service sector. Formerly the Executive Director of The Children's Center and a past-president of Temple Har Shalom, Doug is currently in private practice as a child psychologist.
David Dowsett will continue to serve as President; Lisa Treiman, Co-President-Elect and Vice-President; Ann Bernstein, Co-President-Elect and Treasurer; Karen Lindau, Secretary; Gabriella Archuleta, Officer-at-Large, and Jim Isaacson, Officer-at-Large. Together this group comprise the Executive Committee of the Board.
JFS is also extremely grateful to our returning members Susan Arsht, Harriet Berg, John Bergerson, Gerry Goldman, Kathryn Goddard, Sara Lambrinos, Erin Litvack, Kim McGuire, Donna Milavetz, Liz Tashjian, and Lavine Shapiro, as well as those who completed their terms of service in December: Darcy Amiel, Maria Estrada, and Andrew Gruber.
