UNA Heart & Hands Volunteers

JFS is proud to be honoring two of our dedicated volunteers, who will be recognized with the Heart & Hands Award at the Utah Nonprofit Association’s Philanthropy Day celebration on November 7. Since 1999, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Utah Chapter (formerly Utah Society of Fund Raisers), Utah Nonprofits Association, and UServeUtah have celebrated Utah's outstanding philanthropists and volunteer leaders at the annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon.

Shann Wood is a vital member of the Jewish Family Service Gleeful Choir, a chorus for families living with dementia. For many years, Shann has volunteered as the choir’s accompanist, all while caring for her own husband, who is also a choir member. A lifelong professional musician, Shann brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the choir. She can sight-read music instantly, make musical adjustments on the spot, and offer invaluable suggestions from her years as an opera coach—all with warmth, humor, and a welcoming spirit.

We are deeply grateful for all that Shann contributes to the choir, and she is a most deserving nominee for the Heart & Hands Award.

Sonnie Yudell is an outstanding candidate for Utah Philanthropy Day’s Heart & Hands Award. Her dedication to Jewish Family Service (JFS) spans many years, during which she has served in various roles with unwavering commitment. Sonnie has been a longtime Friendly Visitor for a client living with dementia, supported our Dementia-Friendly Activities, and currently shines in her role with the Gleeful! Choir, a choir for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Week after week, she arrives with snacks, fully engages in singing and socializing, and ensures everything is tidied up. Her presence not only enriches the choir experience but also brings joy and camaraderie to both members and staff.

Sonnie truly embodies the spirit of volunteerism and community, making her a deserving nominee for this recognition.
