One Mother’s Journey Forward with JFS Support

Last year, Jewish Family Service provided $126,000 in emergency financial assistance to more than 139 clients facing crisis, helping them regain stability and move forward with hope.

One of those people was Rebecca*, a single mother navigating the uncertainty of job instability while doing everything she could to keep a roof over her head. As rent deadlines approached, the fear of losing housing became overwhelming. Determined to protect her family, Rebecca reached out for help after learning about JFS through 211 and applied for emergency financial assistance.

The support came just in time.

Rebecca was approved and received assistance the very day she needed it most. “It was such a miracle—I started crying,” she shared. “I couldn’t believe it.”

Receiving help at such a critical moment helped Rebecca avoid a devastating setback. Rebecca was able to remain housed and move forward. In a note of thanks to JFS, she shared that she is now back in community college and working with the Department of Workforce Services to improve her employment situation.

“We feel so blessed and loved by you,” Rebecca wrote. “We are forever grateful. Thank you so much. I feel so inspired by you.”

Rebecca’s story is one of many made possible through JFS’ emergency financial assistance—showing how immediate support in a moment of crisis can open the door to long-term stability, opportunity, and hope.
