Every day, people in our community face challenges that feel impossible to carry alone. The numbers remind us how widespread this need truly is: one in five adults in the United States experiences a mental health condition each year. Suicide remains a leading cause of death among young adults. PTSD touches countless lives after trauma. And yet, recovery is possible. Healing is real. With the right support and treatment, lives change.
When Sarah* first came to JFS just over a year ago, she was barely holding on. Shortly after beginning therapy, she experienced a devastating personal loss — and found herself consumed by intrusive thoughts and a hopelessness she couldn’t shake.
Today, Sarah describes therapy as something that “saved my life.”
Over the past year, Sarah has experienced significant healing and growth. She reports that she no longer struggles with suicidal ideation or the same intensity of intrusive thoughts that once impacted her daily life. She has noticed a meaningful increase in her overall functioning, emotional well-being, and ability to engage more fully in life.
Through a combination of person-centered, strengths-based support, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and counseling, Sarah has been able to rediscover resilience within herself. She shares that feeling heard, supported, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process has made a profound difference in her recovery.
Sarah has also seen important progress in managing symptoms related to PTSD. While she acknowledges that healing is an ongoing journey, she now feels more equipped to navigate chronic symptoms when they arise. She reports that symptoms occur less frequently, feel more manageable, and do not last as long as they once did.
Sarah’s story is a reminder that healing is possible, support matters, and no one has to face life’s hardest moments alone.
