The Arts & Aging Celebration last night at the Sorenson Unity Center was an amazing event! Emily Christensen, JFS' Arts & Aging Coordinator, demonstrated the power of creative aging through music and the arts with moving testimonials from clients in the Exploring Creativity class and a performance from the Gleeful Choir, composed of individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
The audience also participated by accompanying the choir with musical chimes and by singing a round of "Row Row Row Your Boat." The Salt Lake Strummers, a learning ukulele group, helped round out the evening with a performance of "Over the Rainbow" by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole.
Guests feasted at the charcuterie grazing table and perused the impressive gallery of artwork from the clients in the Exploring Creativity class, which will be on display at the Sorenson Unity Center through July 9.
Thanks to everyone who joined us and helped to make the event such a special evening!
